‘Go and do likewise’

-A A +A
By Angela Geralds

Rachel Toon, a weekly contributor to the Mount Vernon Democrat and co-owner of NaeRae’s Health Food Store in Mount Vernon, sent the following information about a fellow resident in need:
Abi Bloodworth, 22, has a rare cancer, “Extraskeletal Ewing’s Sarcoma,” in her leg. She has begun chemo and radiation therapy. The prognosis for full recovery is excellent!
The Bloodworths have minimal insurance coverage.
Teresa Bloodworth gives much to the community. Among the many things she does are providing her gift of piano to the Mount Vernon School district music department as well as playing piano for two churches every Sunday.
Just as the Samaritan generously provided for the hurt traveler along the road, can we not do the same? Jesus said, “Go and do likewise.”
A benefit is planned for Abi for Saturday, July 23, 5-8 p.m. at St. Peter’s United Methodist Church, which is at 2800 St. Phillip Road South, in St. Philip. The church is two miles north of Indiana 62 or two miles south of Indiana 66. For more information, call 985-3751.
The event will include music, fellowship and food, and free will donations will be accepted. Organizers would like to raise a minimum of $5,000 for Abi, and donations can me mailed to St. Peter’s UMC, 2800 St. Philip Road S., Evansville IN 47712.
Thanks to Rachel and countless others who care enough about their fellow humans to give of their time to do their best to make sure the needs of all are met.
