18-year-old charged with child molesting

An 18-year-old Mount Vernon man is charged with molesting a child and is being held on a $10,000 cash bond.

According to Mount Vernon City Police, officers responded to a call about a possible child molesting that happened Oct. 30 on Pearl Street in Mount Vernon.
A 4-year-old child at the location was taken to Deaconess Hospital for a medical examination after police were advised that the suspect, Stephen Brakie, had inserted an object in the child.
On Nov. 1, police interviewed Brakie and determined there was enough probable cause to arrest him. He was lodged in the Posey County Jail on Nov. 1. Brakie is scheduled for a hearing on Nov. 28, 1:30 p.m. at Posey County Circuit Court.
