Bat Cats win three

The Mount Vernon Boys’ Baseball team posted three wins last week over historically strong teams. The Cats were victorious over Mater Dei, Princeton and North, managing to force the mercy rule on Big Eight nemesis Princeton.

Mater Dei

Wildcats took the lead late in the game in an 11-8 victory over Evansville Mater Dei last Monday. The game was tied at eight with Wildcats batting in the top of the seventh when Bryan Hensley singled off of Montgomery, driving in two runs.
Wildcats collected 11 hits and Evansville Mater Dei had nine in the high-scoring affair

Wildcats took an early lead in the first inning. With zero outs in the first inning Mitchell Veeck drove in one run when he singled.

Wildcats scored four runs in the second inning. Wildcats’s big inning was driven by a double by Veeck and a single by Bryan Hensley.

 Evansville Mater Dei evened things up at eight in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Martin Seifert earned the win for Wildcats. He went one-third of an inning, giving up zero runs, zero hits, and walking zero. Hensley recorded the last three outs to earn the save for Wildcats. Fulton took the loss for Evansville Mater Dei. He pitched three innings, surrendering one run, one hit, and striking out six.

Veeck started the game for Wildcats. He pitched one and one-third innings, giving up four runs, two hits, and striking out three.

Hensley, Hunter Murphy, Veeck, Austin Brakie and Bryce Wilson each collected multiple hits for Wildcats. Wilson, Brakie, Veeck, Murphy and Hensley each managed two hits to lead the Wildcats.

Princeton

Wildcats defeated Princeton 11-1 last Tuesday thanks to six runs in the fourth inning. The big inning was thanks to a walk by Bryce Wilson, a walk by Walker Paris, a single by Hunter Murphy, and a single by Austin Brakie.

Wildcats scored six runs in the fourth inning. Wildcats’ big inning was driven by a walk from Bryce Wilson, a walk by Walker Paris, a single by Hunter Murphy and a single by Austin Brakie.

Paris earned the win for Wildcats. He threw five innings, giving up one run, two hits, and striking out four.

Mount Vernon tallied 13 hits. Murphy, Mitchell Veeck, and Brakie each collected multiple hits for Wildcats. Brakie and Murphy each drove in three runs to lead the Wildcats.


North

Wildcats grabbed the lead in the fifth inning and never looked back in victory over Evansville North on the road last Wednesday.

The Wildcats defeated the Huskies 6-3, after taking the lead late in the game. The game was tied at three with Wildcats batting in the top of the fifth when Mitchell Veeck singled, driving in one run.

Martin Seifert earned the win for Wildcats. He tossed three and a third innings, giving up zero runs, two hits, and walking one. Bryan Hensley recorded the last two outs to earn the save for Wildcats. McIntire took the loss for Evansville North. He pitched four and a third innings, allowing five runs, five hits, striking out three, and walking one.
Tanner Curtis started the game for Wildcats. He pitched three innings, giving up three runs, four hits, and striking out two.

The Wildcats posted nine hits. Hunter Murphy, Bryce Wilson and Walker Paris each   had two hits to lead Wildcats.
