Five teams and 47 girls played in this year’s Fall Volleyball League in Mount Vernon.
Two teams were made up of fifth graders, two were sixth-grade teams and one team consisted of fifth and sixth-graders. Schools involved were West, Marrs, Farmersville, St. Matthew and Mount Vernon Junior High School.
Mount Vernon’s fall teams participated in the North Posey League. Three North Posey teams and one New Harmony team were part of the league. The teams played on Saturday mornings. The final Saturday was a tournament.
There were six teams in the sixth-grade division and three teams in the fifth-grade division. In fifth grade, Mount Vernon Gray Team beat North Posey’s fifth-grade team in three games. North Posey then played Mount Vernon Maroon and lost in two games. The championship game was between Mount Vernon Gray and Mount Vernon Maroon, with Mount Vernon Gray winning. Maroon won the first game 25-23, and Gray won the next two 25-22 and 15-10.
In the sixth-grade division, New Harmony and Mount Vernon Volleycats were mixtures of fifth and sixth-grade girls, so they had to play in the sixth grade division. New Harmony won in two games.
The Mount Vernon  Bobcats beat the North Posey sixth-grade B team. The Wildcats received a bye and then played and beat North Posey.
North Posey sixth-grade A-team received the other bye and played the Bobcats. The Bobcats lost in two games.  The championship match was between the Wildcats and North Posey A-team.  North Posey won the first game 25-23.  Then the Wildcats won the last two games 26-24 and 15-12.
