The Mount Vernon Golf team continues to work hard and gain experience among the regions toughest teams. Last week, the Cats were narrowly edged by Mater Dei and finished eighth at the Washington Invite.
Mount Vernon hosted Mater Dei for a nine-hole match last Thursday afternoon at Western Hills Country Club. It was a sunny 83 degrees with 5 mph winds out of the south. Mater Dei outshot the home squad 155-169. Spencer Wagner, of Mater Dei, was the medalist with a score of 37.
Collin Jackson led the Wildcats, shooting a 40 on the day. Joe Allbright shot a 41. Jackson May scored a 42, while Nathan Reeve carded a 46.
The Wildcats traveled to Washington on Saturday for the annual 18-hole invitational outing at Country Oaks Golf Course, where the greens can be faster than one is accustomed to. While the temperature was warm, the windy conditions caused the Link Cats some problems.
Joe Allbright paced the Mount Vernon with an 82. Collin Jackson carded a 94. Jackson May tallied 97 strokes. Nathan Reeves and Kyle Krieger each scored a 103.
The Wildcats return to Western Hills tomorrow at 4 p.m. to host Bosse.
