Michael H. Burns, 57, of Mount Vernon, died Thursday, Dec. 29, 2011 due to injuries suffered in an automobile accident in Watford City, N.D. Michael was born Dec. 28, 1954 in Havre de Grace, Md., the son of Joseph and Helen Fender.

Michael is survived by his daughter, Bobbi Jo of New Harmony; his son, Michael Adam Burns of Pearland, Texas; father, Joseph Fender of Mount Pleasant, Tenn.; brothers: Timothy Fender of Mount Pleasant, Tenn., Wayne Fender of White Hall, Md., and Kevin Fender of Elkton, Md.; sisters Terri Caudill of Havre de Grace, Md., and Cindy Spittler of Mountain View, Mo; and four grandchildren, all of New Harmony.

Mike was preceded in death by his mother Helen Fender.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 7, at the Austin-Stendeback Family Funeral Home in Mount Vernon. The family will receive friends from 9 a.m. until service time. Memorials are suggested to the Burns children. Family and friends are invited to the Owen Dunn American Legion immediately following the service for a meal and time of remembrance.
