On Friday at approximately 10:38 p.m., Evansville Police responded the Pizza Hut on St. Joseph Avenue after receiving a report that a 2004 Dodge Stratus had just been stolen.

The driver is employed at Pizza Hut and left her keys in the car while she walked inside the restaurant to pick up an order for delivery.

About five minutes after the call was placed, Trooper Tyler Widner and a Mount Vernon police officer spotted the stolen vehicle on SR 62 passing the William Keck Bypass near Mount Vernon.

The vehicle was stopped on SR 62 near Plaza Drive, and the driver, who was later identified as Mount Vernon resident Kevin Cheney, 44, was arrested. He was taken to the Vanderburgh County Jail where he is currently being held on bond.

He was charged with one county of theft and one county of operating a vehicle without ever receiving a driver’s license.

Cheney most recently appeared in Posey County court back in October 2015, when he was charged and convicted of several felonies, including strangulation and domestic battery.
