Three Mount Vernon boys will be swimming at state in individual events, and five more will join them to make up Mount Vernon’s 400-yard freestyle relay team. The state meet is this weekend, Feb. 24-25, in Indianapolis.
Jacob Poole made the cut in the 200-yard freestyle event when he won his sectional this past weekend at Castle with a time of 1:47.81.
Reid Mobley will swim in two events in Indy — the 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard backstroke.
At sectionals, Reid Mobley won the 200-yard individual medley event with a 1:59.65 and the 100-yard backstroke with a 55.24.
Nicholas Loehr will swim in the 500-yard freestyle event at state. He won his sectional with a time of 4:58.09. Loehr also finished fifth in the 200-yard individual medley.
The 400-yard freestyle team that will compete at state will consist of Poole, Loehr, Reid Mobley, Wade Mobley, Sage Irons, Layton Hopper, Austin Colson and Danen Turpin.
The team that won sectionals consisted of Reid Mobley, Wade Mobley, Colson and Poole.
Mount Vernon finished third in sectionals with 402 points. Castle won with 484.
Mount Vernon’s 200-yard medley relay team finished second at sectionals. Team members were Reid and Wade Mobley, Poole and Hopper.
Sage Irons finished third in the 500-yard freestyle and ninth in the 200-yard freestyle.
Aaron Duckworth finished eighth in the 500-yard freestyle and 10th in the 200-yard freestyle.
Hopper finished 11th in the 200-yard individual medley and 10th in the 100-yard backstroke.
Turpen finished 12th in the 50-yard freestyle and 12th in the 100-yard freestyle.
Colson finished 13th in the 50-yard freestyle and eighth in the 100-yard freestyle.
Travis Harris finished sixth in the 100-yard backstroke and 15th in the 50-yard freestyle.
Kyle Smith finished fourth in one-meter diving. Jacob Whaley finished fifth in one-meter diving.
Wade Mobley finished second in the 100-yard breast stroke and fifth in the 100-yard butterfly.
Tyler Moll finished ninth in the 100-yard butterfly.
Kevin Moore finished 10th in the 100-yard butterfly and 10th in the 100-yard breaststroke .
Mount Vernon’s 200-yard freestyle relay team finished fourth. Team members were Colson, Loehr, Irons and Turpin.
