  • Volunteer talks about United Way impact

United Way has ended up being a big part of my life as a result of being asked to be a volunteer about 20-25 years ago.  At that time, I was not very familiar with what the United Way actually does.  Well, it did not take long for me to realize all that United Way does for so many individuals in Posey County.

Thanks for great season, Wildcat band
I want to thank the Mount Vernon Marching Wildcats, drum majors and color guards for an outstanding performance each and every time they performed this season.
These young men and women put in hard work and dedication throughout the season – morning, noon and night – through the hot and somewhat cold weather.

  • Candy donations help give kids happy Halloween

Once again, the police and fire departments in Mount Vernon have been able to give the kids of Mount Vernon and the surrounding areas a very nice Halloween.
We would like to thank the many businesses and individuals who continue to help us with this program every year. CVS Pharmacy again took great pictures of the ghosts and goblins as they collected their treats. This department would also like to thank Larry Williams for the ordering and delivering of the candy.

Often we forget what we have close to home. When is the last time you shopped locally in New Harmony? Bringing awareness is the first step of the campaign. We ask that you make a commitment to visit New Harmony businesses at least once a week to find out what you have been missing. We think you will be surprised at what you find.

  • Thanks for help with holiday kids project

The Mount Vernon Fraternal Order of Police lodge #133 would like to thank the many individuals, groups, business, active associate affiliate auxiliary members, and sponsors that help to make the Cops and Kids program a success this past year. This was the 20th year the FOP has had a program to make the Christmas time brighter for a few of our neighbors’ kids that are in need.
The FOP works with the local Ministerial association that has identified 100 kids throughout Posey County that need assistance. The kids along with their parents,
