Despite the fact that Ana de Armas and Ben Affleck‘s romance ended after just one year of dating, she learned a lot about herself. In a recent interview with Elle magazine, the 34-year-old actress discusses how her highly publicised romance with the 49-year-old actor helped her realise Los Angeles was not where she belonged.
De Armas admits it was “awful” but ultimately turned out to be a blessing when asked how it felt to be continually spoken about and photographed while dating Affleck.
“Which is great,” she continues. “That’s among the reasons I left Los Angeles.”
De Armas elaborates on the event, saying that she had spent years witnessing the continual surveillance of others’ life by paparazzi, so when it happened to her, she realised it was time to leave.
“The fact that I went through it strengthened my belief that “this is not the place for me to be,” she says. “It got a little bit out of hand. There is no way out. There is no escape. There is always a sense of something being missing or lacking [in Los Angeles]. It’s a city that causes you to feel uneasy.”
The Cuban-born Blonde actress has now moved to New York City, where she shares an apartment with her partner, Tinder executive Paul Boukadakis. When they were seen kissing in Los Angeles in December 2021, De Armas and Boukadakis first fueled romance rumours.
De Armas and Affleck split up in January 2021, a few months before she began dating Boukadakis. However, a source informed ET that the decision to split was mutual.
