Apple iPhone 14 vs 14 Pro: Everything we know so far
The iPhone’s annual refresh is one of the most significant events in technology: it’s the phone that many people aspire to buy, the phone that sets trends, and the phone that all others strive to improve.
Apple iPhone 14 vs 14 Pro: Release date Rumors
While leaks and rumours are nothing new in the IT world, gaining complete details about new Apple gadgets is uncommon. They don’t leak as much as a Samsung or Google phone, but we’re compiling everything we know about the iPhone models for 2022 right here.
Apple’s iPhone event usually takes place in the second week of September, on a Tuesday. Following this trend, the iPhone 13 models were unveiled on September 14th.
If history repeats itself, the iPhone 14 models could be unveiled on September 13, 2022. Of course, nothing is official yet, and it won’t be for a long time.
Apple iPhone 14 vs 14 Pro: Expected prices
In terms of pricing, we anticipate the iPhone 14 models will be priced similarly to the iPhone 13 models. According to rumours, the iPhone small model may be phased out in the future, which, if true, would raise the beginning price of the iPhone 14 models over the iPhone 13 models. However, it is hoped that an iPhone 14 small will be released.
What will be the name of the iPhone in 2022?
- Mini iPhone 14
- 14th iPhone
- Apple iPhone 14 Pro
- Apple’s 14-inch Pro Max iPhone
The iPhone 11 mini, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 12 Pro Max were released in 2019, with the iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 12 Pro Max following in 2020 and the iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Pro, and iPhone 13 Pro Max following in 2021.
Unless there is no mini, the upcoming iPhones are likely to be called the iPhone 14 mini, iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max. If there isn’t a mini, the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Max, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max could be revealed.
Apple iPhone 14 vs 14 Pro: Design
- A completely new design
- Is there a camera with a punch hole?
- Rear flush
The Apple iPhone 13 models had the same design as the iPhone 12 models, with flat sides and a look more akin to the iPhone 4 and 5 than the rounded edges we’d been accustomed to since the iPhone 6.
However, rumours say that the iPhone 14 models may change things up once further, with speculations of a punch hole front camera. The Pro variants are believed to have a pill-shaped cutout beneath the display that would house the front camera and Face ID. There are also rumours that the protruding rear camera in the next iPhone will be flush with the phone’s back.
The top of the iPhone 13 models has a smaller notch than prior Face ID phones, and a patent for a notch-less phone was previously filed, but we’ll have to wait and see whether this becomes a reality.
In terms of finishes, we expect the Pro versions to remain more expensive than the basic models, with rumours circulating that scratch-resistant titanium could be used.
Apple iPhone 14 vs 14 Pro: Displays
- The entire display is OLED.
- The refresh rate is 120Hz.
- Various sizes
All iPhones in 2022 will most likely have an OLED display, similar to the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 models. Like the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max, the iPhone 14 Pro models are said to offer an adaptable refresh rate between 10Hz and 120Hz, however maybe the ProMotion technology will make its way down to the normal versions as well – at least that’s the rumour.
The iPhone 13 small features a 5.4-inch display, the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro feature a 6.1-inch display, and the iPhone 13 Pro Max features a 6.7-inch display. As previously stated, there has been speculation that the iPhone mini may be phased out in favour of a conventional Max model.
If this happens, the iPhone 14 might be available in two sizes: 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch, with a Pro and ordinary version of each. We’re still hoping that the small will be available in 2022, as we adore the device.
Some conjecture previously claimed that in-display fingerprint sensors may function in conjunction with Face ID, which is a reasonable possibility.
Apple iPhone 14 vs 14 Pro: Cameras
- Standard variants have a dual camera
- On Pro models, there is a triple camera
The Apple iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max both contain a triple rear camera with a main wide sensor, ultra wide sensor, and telephoto sensor, but the ordinary iPhone 13 small and iPhone 13 lack the telephoto lens.
There have been a few rumours that the iPhone 14 Pro will include a wide-angle camera with a 1/1.3-inch 48MP CMOS image sensor and capabilities for 8K video recording, but it’s still early days.
Over the iPhone 14 ordinary versions, we expect the iPhone 14 Pro models to continue to include an extra lens and capabilities such as Macro and ProRES. It’s unknown what might change in 2022, although it’s sure to be better than the 2021 models.
Apple iPhone 14 vs 14 Pro: Hardware and software
- A16 microprocessor
- iOS 16 is the latest version of iOS.
With Apple’s adoption of 5G in both iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 models, it’s safe to assume that all iPhone 14 devices will be 5G compatible as well.
The A16 Bionic chip is also anticipated to power the iPhone 14 models, provided Apple sticks to its chipset naming conventions. The iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max both had an additional core for their GPU, and the iPhone 14 Pro versions may include one as well, helping to distinguish them from the normal devices.
iOS 16 will be the next big software release, and we anticipate to learn more about it in June 2022, when Apple conducts its annual Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC).
With the normal iPhone 13 models giving 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB of storage, and the iPhone 13 Pro models offering the same, plus a 1TB option, we’d anticipate the iPhone 14 models to follow suit. All variants will have 6GB of RAM, and the basic models will start with 64GB of storage, while the Pro models will start with 256GB.
So far, here’s all we know about the iPhone 14 variants.
