Ashton Kutcher, Natalie Portman and More Joining ‘Running Wild With Bear Grylls: The Challenge’

Bear Grylls is back, and this time he’s bringing even more celebs into the wild. Running Wild with Bear Grylls: The Challenge introduces a fresh cast of characters, locales, and tasks to push the Emmy-winning presenter and his celebrity guests, including Ashton Kutcher, Natalie Portman, and Simu Liu, to their limits.

Grylls will teach the celebs a set of basic survival skills, which they will put to the test in some of the most extreme outdoor locations, as he has done in previous seasons. This season, however, is different since some of the regulations have altered and the stakes have been raised.

“This season, visitors will not only be pushed physically and emotionally — such as plunging into a frozen lake in the Canadian Rockies or searching for food in the Great Basin deserts — but Bear will put their survival abilities to the stand,” according to the press release.

“This time, they’ll be put to the ultimate test: after Bear teaches them a vital set of abilities, they’ll have to perfect them on their own and use them in a high-stress situation to earn their release from the wilderness.”

Bear Grylls’ Running Wild Challenge begins in Southern Utah with Portman. The actress will learn piton placements and other techniques that will help her summit a mountain and attempt to light a signal fire for extraction during their trek through the Escalante desert with Grylls.

The Costa Rican Jungles will test Kutcher and Grylls. After falling into the Pacific Ocean from a helicopter, the actor must acquire a succession of skills, including canoeing, fishing, and scaling a 300-foot jungle cliff.

In the Canadian Rockies, Liu will be accompanied by the host to face the “ultimate artic challenge,” which entails the Marvel superstar stripping down and plunging into a frozen lake before assisting a dogsled team in making their way back to civilization. Florence Pugh, who will be tested in Costa Rica’s volcanic jungles, Anthony Anderson, who will be tested in the Sierra Nevada highlands, and Rob Riggle, who will be tested in the Great Basin to help prepare for his current job, are among the other guests this season.

On July 25 at 9 p.m., National Geographic will air Running Wild with Bear Grylls: The Challenge. Prior seasons of Running Wild With Bear Grylls are also available to view on Disney+, with all episodes premiering on August 10th.
