The deaths of at least 20 individuals early on Sunday at a nightclub in the coastal town of East London are being looked into by South African authorities.
The young individuals, who were apparently attending a party to celebrate the end of winter school exams, died for unknown reasons.
According to the local daily Daily Dispatch, the remains were spread across seats and tables with no obvious evidence of trauma.
Speaking on behalf of the health department, Siyanda Manana said, “At this time, we are unable to confirm the cause of death.
To determine the likely cause of death, autopsies will be performed as quickly as possible. The dead have been sent to state morgues, Manana continued.

On Sunday morning, it was anticipated that Police Minister Bheki Cele will visit the area.
Siyakhangela Ndevu, the club’s owner, told the local station eNCA that he had been called to the site early on Sunday.
I was told the place was too packed and that some individuals were attempting to force their way into the tavern when I was summoned in the morning, but I’m still unsure of what exactly transpired, he said.
Ndevu continued, “However, we shall hear what the police say regarding the cause of death.”
