Cardi B balances her roles as a superstar and a mother of two. In a recent interview with Vogue Singapore, the 29-year-old rapper discusses parenting and gives her explanation for why she decided against hiring a babysitter despite having a busy schedule.
Cardi, who is married to Offset and has two children, a 4-year-old daughter named Kulture and a 10-month-old son named Wave, first reveals that both of her kids recently were sick at the same time, which caused the interview to be postponed by 24 hours due to the baby’s ER visit.
She admits, “It’s been quite stressful.” “I’ve spent the last two days up all night and all day with my baby—but what can you do, you know?”
“I’m worn out. Before expressing how the recent events had her reminiscing about her childhood with sister Hennessy, she continues, “I’ve been overwhelmed and afraid. “I began to consider how much my mother had to go through because my sister and I always became sick at the same time. Having children makes you see things a little bit differently, so I’ve never appreciated my mother more.
Cardi muses on what she had imagined parenting to be like, revealing that she had imagined hiring someone to accompany her on business trips, but that all changed once Kulture was born.
Everyone was quite worried about my work and future, but I kept promising them it would be simple. Please believe me when I say that I will be travelling up and down with a nanny. It won’t even be a trouble, she claims. “When the baby arrived, I was so frightened of having anyone near her save my family that I couldn’t even consider hiring a babysitter. Kulture has never had a nanny before.
Although she acknowledges she doesn’t take advantage of her mother Clara Almánzar‘s goodwill when it comes to watching Kulture and Wave, Cardi is aware of the support she receives from her husband and family.
“Your parents have finished raising their children and living their own lives. They lack the youthful vigour of someone in their 20s since they are older, she claims. I’m never distant from my children because I have a motherly duty to do so.
Cardi is motivated to grow her children to be the best versions of themselves, just like any other mother. She adds about Kulture, “I want her to do incredible things when she grows up. I just want her to be a better version of me, smarter than me.

Cardi also wants her children to recognise the luxury it is to be the offspring of two successful musicians.
“They must understand to never feel at ease. Never think, “I’m going to receive it because I’m Cardi and Offset’s kid,” or anything like. They may not have the hunger I had to escape the streets since they would never experience what it is like to fight, she claims. “Even if my kids are wealthy, I want them to understand that when you strive for something and succeed, it’s more respected—especially when people can see that you busted your ass for it.”
However, indulging her children is OK. For instance, Offset gave Kulture $50,000 earlier this week for her fourth birthday. At her concert in England, Cardi requested that everyone sing “Happy Birthday” to her daughter.
