Best One Tire and Service Shop celebrated its return to Mount Vernon last Tuesday with a ribbon cutting ceremony.

“We are very excited to be back in Mount Vernon,” said John Wilcher, the store’s new manager. “We can’t wait to get to know more people and become part of this community.”

The body shop, located next to Arby’s on Fourth Street, went out of business about three years ago due to financial struggles. The franchise operation returned this month with a new president, store manager, employees and remodeled building. Wilcher said discussions about re-opening the location began around December.

“We saw the economy bouncing back in this area, and it was a no-brainer for us that we needed to re-open,” he said.
The interior of Best One was completely gutted and renovated before re-opening to the public. The $300,000 project touched nearly every aspect of the shop, from the flooring and bathrooms to the equipment and inventory. Wilcher said residents are welcome to stop by and get a tour of the new facility.

“When old customers come back and see it, they can’t believe how different it looks,” he said.

Best One is a full service shop that can handle repairs and maintenance for nearly every kind of vehicle except

semi-trucks and agricultural equipment. The shop does offer tire and brake replacement on those larger vehicles, and Wilcher said Best One plans to add a special service for tractors and semis later this year.

“We are hoping to invest in a service truck that can actually meet these vehicles out in the field when they break down,” he said. “We would be able to go directly to them.”

The store location currently offers a customer shuttle, so that patrons still have a way to get home while their car is being worked on.

Now that the doors are open, Wilcher and his six employees are busy getting the word out. The store manager said he has already spoken to Mount Vernon schools about becoming a potential sponsor, and hopes to continue fostering relationships like this as time goes on.

“We want people to get to know us, and we want to get to know them,” Wilcher said. “We’re glad to be back.”
