Girls’ tennis defeats Bosse

The Mount Vernon Girls Tennis team picked up a much needed win over Bosse on Thursday, 3-2.

It was a positive note to end a challenging week for the team, which suffered losses to Princeton and North Posey. Their match against Evansville Day School was postponed due to rain.


Emily Duckworth defeated Taylor Ayers in number one singles, 6-2, 6-4, and Bryley Harms dominated Chloe Perry in number two singles, 6-0, 6-2.

Ella Sims and Jackie Godinez were defeated in number one doubles by Bosse duo Macey Hammon and Audrey Wilson, 2-6, 2-6. Mount Vernon bounced back in the number two doubles, with Janell Schritzinger and Maci Selke defeating Feayrra Bell and Hannah Wells, 6-0, 6-2.

In reserve action, Ryann Miller and Drew Scates defeated Majestica Weatherford and Madison Martin 6-1.


The Wildcats were unable to deliver a win against Princeton High School during their match April 19, falling 2-3.
Duckworth defeated Brooke Shafer during number one singles 7-5, 6-3. Harms also pulled off a successful victory against Keaton Whetstone during number two singles, going 6-1, 6-4. Sims was defeated by Emma Ault in number three singles, Sims 6-7 (3), 4-6.

Cora Epley and Jackie Godinez were defeated by Paige Patterson and Rachel Stiles during number one doubles, 2-6, 1-6. The girls continued to struggle as Janell Schirtzinger and Rachel Krieger ultimately fell to Syerra York and Kloe Key during number two singles, 3-6, 1-6.


The Mount Vernon Girls’ Tennis team will return for a home match against Central at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
