Lady Wildcats fall just short of Sectional title

For the Mount Vernon Softball team, the home hosted Sectional couldn’t have started better, but the girls ran out of steam in the end, losing in the championship to Heritage Hills.

Round 1 - Bosse

The girls opened the Sectional with a meeting against Bosse.

The team picked up a 10-0 win. Brooklyn Gibbs picked up the win, pitching five innings and allowing one hit and recording 12 strikeouts. Jaycie Tucker picthed two innings and had two strikeouts.

Leading the team at the plate were Kaaleigh Krieger with three hits including two doubles and three RBIs.

Gabi Gilpin, Megan Ghrist and Paige Robinson each had a hit. Robinson had three RBIs and Gilpin, Gibbs and Lexus Chavez each had an RBI.

Round 2 - Memorial

Gibbs was solid in the circle, pitching a five-inning no hitter, only allowing one walk in a 10-0 win over Memorial.

Krieger hit a walk off home run to seal the win, along with three RBIs.

Gibbs had a pair of hits and Jailyn Roberts, Tucker, Krieger, Chavez and Ghrist had a hit each. Tucker and Chavez had two RBIs each and Gibbs had one.

Tucker and Chavez also hit doubles.

Final - Heritage Hills

The spectacular season for the team fell short in front of a packed house Thursday against Heritage Hills. The team lost 11-6.

The extended innings game ended in the 10th inning with a five run explosion by the Lady Patriots.

Gibbs pitched the entire ten innings and allowed 11 runs on 13 hits with seven walks and 14 strikeouts.

Tucker Gibbs and Ghrist each had two hits in the game. Gilpin, Addie Robinson and Krieger each added a hit.

Gibbs had a home run to help her cause, and Tucker added a double.

Gibbs had a pair of RBIs and Tucker, Addie Robinson and Ghrist each had one.

Mount Vernon ends its season 14-10.
