After dreams of being a beautician in high school, Jessica Risher of Mount Vernon spent some time on the east coast, where she did just that, learning her skills in a fast paced world.

Before she chased her dream of being a stylist, Risher first studied office administration, but soon came back to what she wanted to do.

“I was living in Connecticut and worked for Ulta Beauty,” said Risher. “But now I am back home.”

Risher said she is excited to be back home near family, and to be working at the Green Duck Hair Salon.

People are the main reason she loves the profession.

“I really like talking with the people, and hopefully help make them feel better about themselves,” she said.

While at Ulta, Risher learned cutting edge skills that she is bringing with her to the smaller town level, so her clientle will not need to travel to get the latest styles.

“The 1940s and 50s hairstyles are coming back in for men, and French braids are becoming popular with women,” she said.

Different colors in hair is coming back in a big way, much like it did in the 80s according to Risher.

Risher has advice for someone who may be interested in a new hairstyle, but may be afraid to take that first step.

“It is ok to step out of your comfort zone,” said Risher. “Just ease into it and don’t do something drastic at first.”

Risher is available now for your appointments at the Green Duck Hair Salon on North Main Street in Mount Vernon.
