David, used to his adolescent lifestyle, continues to live like the cool guy he was in high school, dating and trying to make a living while hanging out with John at the Lunch Hut.
The diabolical team solved mysteries including who was lurking in the shadows of famed cool-kid hangout Party Pines and why children were being trained to smash pianos rather than play them in Season 1. On John’s run-down boathouse deck, the best friends appear to always be looking out for one another while interpreting riddles, sharing inside jokes, and having psychedelic experiences.
Season 2 will see the pair cope with adulthood and continue to struggle to produce enough money to keep their business and home afloat, all while solving mysteries in the same title-card way as the first season. When the two are invited to a murder mystery party with people their age, they must demonstrate their superior sleuthing talents in order to acquire respect and potentially sponsorship from other adults.
The two will partner up with Taggy, a Charlie’s Angels-style voice who will give the guys leads on mysteries to solve via a toy robot, though perhaps this will lead to much bigger and better-paying cases than the missing pimento cheese recipe that they must uncover in Season 2’s opening episode. Taggy tells David and John that he can see them in high-stakes situations, fighting ninjas and fleeing by helicopter, but the two are still a long way from making that a reality as they hand out business cards to more teenagers, hoping to pique interest in their business among the same old clientele.

Show founders John Hodgman and David Rees will reprise their roles as the financially insecure and out-of-touch detective John Hunchman and his ever-cool sidekick David Purefoy, while also serving as the series’ sole writers off-screen.
