After their lawyers made closing arguments in their defamation trial, Elon Musk broke his silence about Amber Heard and her ex-husband Johnny Depp with words of praise for both performers.
Initially identified as a potential witness in the case, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, who dated the actress for several months following the acting couple’s divorce, did not testify in the case. The jury began deliberations on a judgment on May 27 and is scheduled to return to the court following Memorial Day weekend on May 31.
Musk tweeted on May 27th, hours after the hearing closed, “I hope they both move on.” “They’re all amazing when they’re at their best.”
Musk was responding to a tweet from MIT research scientist and podcaster Lex Fridman, who said, “The following are my key conclusions from the Johnny Depp vs. Amber Heard trial: 1. Fame is a powerful drug (for some). 2. Psychiatrists and lawyers have vastly different levels of expertise. 3. Humans have the ability to deceive millions of people. 4. Love can be a shambles. 5. A ginormous pint of wine”
Depp is suing Heard for $50 million, claiming that she defamed him in a Washington Post op-ed in which she stated, “I became a public figure symbolizing domestic abuse,” without naming Depp. Heard is suing Depp for $100 million in retaliation. During their one-year marriage, both accuse the other of domestic violence, although each denies the abuse.
During the trial, Christian Carino, a Creative Artists Agency talent agent who once represented both Depp and Heard, testified that after the actress filed for divorce and obtained a temporary restraining order against the actor in May 2016, she asked him to arrange a meeting between the former couple in a pre-taped deposition in March. Carino claimed he did because he thought she wanted to reunite with her ex-boyfriend. “Not long after,” the agency stated, he found out that the actress and Musk had “spent time together.”
Depp accused Heard of having an intra-marital affair with the millionaire in his defamation case. “Unbeknownst to Mr. Depp, she was spending time in a new relationship with Tesla and Space X creator, Elon Musk, no later than one month after his marriage to Ms. Heard,” the filing claims. However, in 2019, a Musk spokesperson told E! News, “Elon and Amber didn’t start dating until May 2016, and even then, it was just on occasion. It took a long time for their relationship to develop into a romantic one.”
Around July 2016, Heard and Musk fueled relationship speculations
In April 2017, they made their first public appearance together and became Instagram official. Multiple reports said the couple had broken up the following August.
During his deposition, Carino was asked about a text exchange he had with Heard in August 2017, in which he said to him, “dealing with the aftermath of a breakup I despise it when things are made public. C, I’m really depressed.” “I presume she’s referring to splitting up with Elon,” the agent told the court. “You weren’t in love with him, and you told me a thousand times you were just filling space,” he texted back to Heard, according to him.
“I know, but I wanted time to grieve and recover in my own time,” she replied back, and he verified.
“I’m not sure whether she’s referring to Johnny or Elon in that phrase,” Carino told the court.

“I detest it that yet again a man lets me fall on the spikes by myself,” Heard wrote to Carino in another text discussion. Carino’s response was, “That could be avoided if you avoided dating ultra-famous people. You can be with a powerful man who isn’t well-known.”
Heard’s lawyer read in court earlier this week, in the final days of the trial, a text message Depp allegedly sent to Carino in August 2016, in which the actor said his ex was “begging for total global humiliation” and made a reference to her relationship with Musk, dubbing the billionaire “Mollusk.”
