  • St. Philip Church presents: Inside out, upside down on Main Street


    St. Philip Church is hosting Bible School in The Center (school gym) beginning Monday, July 18 through Friday, July 22 from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. The public is invited to attend the non-denominational event held for children preschool through Fifth grade. It is free for all to attend the event themed “Inside Out, Upside Down on Main Street.” It will teach students the stories Jesus told in a fun and energetic environment using music, stories, crafts and activities each day.

    The second graders of St. Matthew Catholic Church made their First Communion on Sunday, May 1.     First Presbyterian Church
    First Presbyterian Church in Mount Vernon will be offering Lenten soup suppers and studies each Wednesday during Lent, 5:30-6:45 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. This year, we will be studying the influences Old Testament feasts and holy days have on Christian holy days. On the last Wednesday before Easter, there will be a Passover meal.     Trinity UCC will offer mid-day services on Wednesdays in Lent for the second year.  Through April 13, Wednesday services at 12:15 and 6:45 p.m. will include interviews with a professor who maintains a menagerie of animals with connections to Jesus’ life. The evening services, which include choral music, will be preceded by a supper of soup, sandwiches, and/or salads. The food will be served in the Fellowship Hall from 5:45 to 6:30 p.m. for a free-will offering. For more information, call 838-3805.

  • Bethesda General Baptist presents Rocky and His Friends puppet show

    Rocky and His Friends puppet show is returning to the Bethesda General Baptist Church on Sunday, March 20 at 10:30 a.m. The show is for all ages. For more information, call 499-4952.

    First Presbyterian Church in Mount Vernon will have an Ash Wednesday service on March 9 at 6 p.m. The public is invited to attend.

  • Trinity U.C.C. to host Ash Wednesday services

    Trinity U.C.C. will welcome the Mount Vernon community to Ash Wednesday services that include a ritual of sackcloth and ashes in addition to Holy Communion. The services begin at 7 p.m.  

  • St. Peter's UMC hosts annual flea market


    St. Peter’s United Methodist Church, 2800 St. Phillips Road in St. Philips will have its second annual flea market and bake sale on Saturday, April 2, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in their community center. The event will be held rain or shine. Food will be available along with all the other things at the market. For more information or to reserve a booth for the event, call 985-5143.

  • St. John's Episcopal Church to host Shrove Tuesday

    Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper

    St. John’s Episcopal Church located on the corner of 6th and Mulberry Street in Mount Vernon will celebrate its traditional Shrove Tuesday pancake and sausage supper on Tuesday, March 8 beginning at 6 p.m. The parish hall is located on the back of the church on the Sixth Street entrance.
