    • Teddy Bear Book Club — This February, cuddle up with your little one and join our winter read-to-me program. This program challenges you to read 100 picture books or board books to your preschool child (ages birth to 5 years). That’s about 3.5 books a day. Register at the youth desk or bookmobile. Children who attend storytime at APL may count the books they listen to at the program.

  • Under the Beams presents Le Vent du Nord

    Under the Beams will feature the Canadian foursome, Le Vent du Nord,one of the big names in the traditional folk music revival movement. The performance is Saturday, Feb. 12 at 8 p.m. at the Rapp-Owen Granary in New Harmony.

    Health Department
    Immunization Clinics

    The Posey County Health Department will have immunization clinics Feb. 16 at the coliseum in Mount Vernon from 2-6 p.m., and March 9 at North Elementary in Poseyville, 3-5 p.m.
    Required immunizations for the 2010-11 school year include:
    n All Kindergarten students will be required to have one of the required doses of polio vaccine given on or after the fourth birthday, and at least 6 months after the previous dose.

  • Agape offers 'Couples Night Out'

    Members of Agape Family Ministries will open church doors to the community for a “Couples Night Out” this Valentine’s Day weekend.
    Parents of Mount Vernon are encouraged to drop children off in a fun, safe environment while they enjoy a night of romance.
    On Saturday, Feb. 12 from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., children up to age 12 will be welcomed to eat, play and learn free of charge.
    Children will be provided dinner and will have the opportunity to make crafts, play games, enjoy music and much more.

  • New Harmony gallery to offer jewelry-making workshops

    Jewelry Making Workshops
    In coordination with its current exhibit, “Bling! Art Jewelry from the Collection of Doris Murdoch,” the New Harmony Gallery of Contemporary Art and the University of Southern Indiana’s Office of Outreach and Engagement will host jewelry-making workshops on three Saturdays in February. All workshops will be led by Evansville artist Sarah Rhoades and will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

  • Art Guild to host art camp for kids


    The Mount Vernon High School Art Guild is hosting an art camp for students in grades 3-8, to explore art techniques and mediums. Students will be given an opportunity to express themselves through three different projects. The art camp will be held in the high school art rooms and cafeteria.
    The art camp will be held Saturday, Feb. 19, 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Registration begins at 7:45 a.m.
    Cost is $25 per student and $20 per additional siblings. Fee includes all art supplies, T-shirt activity and snacks.

    There’s always something happening at the Alexandrian Public Library. Storytimes, readers’ programs, mother and toddler groups, teen programs, book club sessions, informational programs and so much more. The library is an active place. Here are some of the events going on this January.

  • Library Corner, Dec. 8


    Teen Time — Drop in for Teen Time on Mondays after school at 3:30 p.m. Each and every Monday. There will be games, crafts and tons of fun for youth in grades 6- 12!

    Sew Happy — “Sew Happy” is a bi-weekly gathering of crafters — we will meet at 10  a.m. on Dec. 8 and 22. If you quilt, knit, do tatting, crochet, etc. come and join the fun!
