  • Red Ribbon Week at Farmersville

    Members of Posey County Sheriff’s Department visited Farmersville Elementary during Red Ribbon Week. Deputy Matt Henrich, Detective Jeremy Fortune, and Officer Tony Toops explained and displayed some of the equipment used to combat illegal drug use.   • MVHS Theater seeks clothing, accessories

    The Mount Vernon High School Theater is seeking donations of adult period clothing and accessories, including hats, shoes, coats, gloves, and costume jewelry, and more. Men’s clothing is especially needed. We will gladly take apparel from any time period, but for the next musical, our focus is on 1890’s-style western clothing and 1950’s evening wear.   • Wildcats of the Month

    The following 10 students were selected by the faculty of Mount Vernon High School as “Wildcat of the Month” for September 2010. Students are selected based on criteria which include academics, citizenship, effort and attendance. Student honorees receive movie passes, food certificates and an MVHS T-shirt for being selected.   • DAR announces annual essay contest

    The Gen. Thomas Posey Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will begin its annual essay contest.
    The contest is for children in fifth through eighth grade. In celebration of the 275th anniversary of the birth of Paul Revere, pretend you are Paul Revere writing your memoirs. Relate various accomplishments for which you wish to be remembered in the annals of American History.

  • Academic Honors

    Michael Huff

    Michael Huff of Mount Vernon has been named to the Spring 2010 Dean’s List for the University of Evansville. Michael has a 4.0 grade point average and is majoring in Mathematics. He is a 2008 graduate of Mount Vernon High School.

    Michael is the son of Jim and Christina Huff of Posey County. He is a member of Kappa Mu Epsilon, a national mathematics honor society, and the National Society of Collegiate Scholars.

  • Mount Vernon seniors honored, scholarships and awards

    Mount Vernon High School seniors were honored Monday, May 17 during the school’s annual seniors honors night. Seniors receiving scholastic cords for honors include Matthew Eaton, Bryan Reese, Randi Redman, Justin Schroeder, Marc Schutz, Kyle Goebel, Kassandra Brown and Marc Lewis. Seniors receiving scholastic cords for high honors include John Seifert, Kendra Kopatich, Sally Russell, Tyler Schroder, Shannon Dick, Lauren Hendricks, Cory Dixon, Hannah Wheaton, Jonathan Burgess, Elizabeth Frye and Alyssa Burnett.

  • Band Honors

    The Mount Vernon Band Boosters held its Annual Awards Banquet during its May 4 meeting. Junior and senior high school band awards were presented.
