Both Heigl and Chalke will reprise their roles as Kate and Tully (or, as the show refers to them in their teen years, “TullyandKate”). Ben Lawson as Johnny Ryan, Kate’s estranged husband whom she divorced for leaving his family to report on the events in Iraq, will also return for the second season. Danny Diaz, a brash sportscaster and Tully’s love interest, will be played by Ignacio Serricchio (Lost In Space). Justine Jordan, a “sunny, optimistic talent agent” Tully tries to hire when she needs PR help, will be played by Jolene Purdy (The White Lotus). Charlotte, a reporter from Kate and Tully’s 1980s tenure at a Seattle newspaper where they met Johnny before Kate married him, will be played by India de Beaufort (Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist). Charlotte, like Kate and Tully, had a crush on Johnny, and now that he’s single, she’s back as a confident, well-known journalist.
Greg Germann, who left Grey’s Anatomy after Season 17, will play Benedict Binswanger, a figure from the 1980s who is running for governor of Washington… but he has a secret that Tully and Kate want to uncover in order to bring him down.
