In a press release from December 15, 2022, Harvard University said that Gay would be the 30th president of the university. Her term would start on July 1, 2023. People think she will be the first black person to be president of Harvard, which would be a big deal.

Harvard University said on Thursday that Claudine Gay would be its 30th president.
Gay is only the second woman to lead the university, and she is also the first person of colour to do so.
Gay is the daughter of Haitian immigrants. She went to Harvard and got a Ph.D. in government. The Harvard Gazette said that she also won the Toppan Prize for a great political science dissertation.
Since 2018, Gay has been in charge of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences as Dean. She is also the leader of a group called the Inequality in America Initiative, which started working in 2017. Lawrence S. Bacow, who is the president of Harvard right now, said in June that he would leave his job after five years. Gay will take over from Bacow.
Gay told the Harvard Gazette, “I am humbled that the governing boards have put their trust in me and that I might replace President Bacow as the leader of this great institution.”

As someone who used to work with Larry, I can say without a doubt that it was a pleasure to work with him over the past five years. Through his actions, he showed me that being a leader is a group effort. It’s about us making progress as a group, and I’ll take that with me on my next trip.
Gay will become president in July 2023. The most powerful group in charge of running Harvard University, the Harvard Corporation, voted for her to be president. After Bacow’s statement in June, a thorough search began, and with the election, it is now over.
In an article for the Harvard Gazette, Bacow said, “Claudine is a rock-solid honest person.” She has a strong sense of right and wrong, which is what Harvard needs to go in the right direction. The person the search committee chose to be the 30th president is a great choice. Harvard will do well as long as Claudine Gay is in charge.
