Headaches: 5 natural solutions to relieve pain

Whether it’s a dull ache or a throbbing pain, a headache sends most people straight to the medicine cabinet. But medications or pain relievers are not the only solution to relieve headaches, or their most severe form, migraine, which is often accompanied by nausea, vomiting, and sensitivity to light and sound. Here are five natural solutions that will relieve and prevent headache pain.

Change Your Diet

Before You Get That Bottle Of pain relievers, try to fight headaches with your diet. Add other foods containing magnesium, found in green vegetables and whole grains, and riboflavin (vitamin B2), found in low-fat dairy products and eggs. Try to eliminate certain foods that many people find triggering migraines. And make sure that your general diet is healthy and balanced.

Herbal medicine for headaches

Certain herbs can be an effective alternative to prescription or over-the-counter pain relief medications. Ginger helps soothe headache symptoms by acting as an anti-inflammatory, while chrysanthemum helps reduce constriction of blood vessels which can lead to headaches.

Peppermint oil, applied to the temples and forehead, is also a great way to relieve pain. Its anti-inflammatory properties soothe pain and tight muscles, common in tension headaches.

Take a yoga mat

You suffer from chronic headaches? Sign up for a weekly yoga class or do yoga moves at home. Preliminary research suggests that yoga may reduce the intensity and frequency of strains and migraines, and may also help reduce your need for pain medication in the future. Yoga is also great for relieving stress, a leading cause of headaches.

Try acupuncture

Small needles fines used in this ancient form of Chinese medicine can offer great benefits when it comes to migraines and headaches. One study has shown that acupuncture can help prevent migraine attacks and relieve episodic tension headaches, as well as conventional drug treatments, without the nasty side effects of drugs.

Sleep better

Studies have shown that insufficient sleep or poor sleep habits can trigger migraines and increase the frequency of tension headaches. So make closing your eyes a priority. If you get a good night’s sleep it could help you avoid headaches and improve your overall health.
