This fall, IMAX and Pathé Live have formed a new agreement to bring Indochine, a French pop-rock band, to IMAX screens. The sold-out Indochine – Central Tour event at Groupama Stadium in Lyon, France, will be photographed using 22 IMAX-certified cameras on Saturday, June 25. When the rollout begins on November 23 in France and certain markets, this will be the first concert ever published using the Filmed for IMAX camera programme. The next day, it will only be shown in non-IMAX theatres for one evening. There are now 17 IMAX theatres in France.
The event will be held in Belgium, Switzerland, and other select areas outside of France, with more information to be disclosed in the coming weeks.
Indochine was founded in 1981 in Paris. With songs like “L’Aventurier” and “Canary Bay,” it became popular throughout the Francophonie, Europe, and Latin America in the 1980s. The band is the best-selling French band of all time, having sold over 13 million albums and singles.
The Central Tour, which is celebrating Indochine’s 40th anniversary, has sold over 400,000 tickets across six stadium events. It was unveiled in front of 97,036 fans at the Stade de France on May 21, setting a new attendance record for all events held at the renowned stadium (sport and concert events combined). The live spectacle comprises a 147-foot central tower and the world’s largest LED screen (27,000 sq ft/1,400 led panels) ever used in a live concert.
Hans Pannecoucke directed the concert film, which was produced by KMS, Sony Music, and JYL Productions and distributed exclusively in theatres by Pathé Live.
Megan Colligan, President of IMAX Entertainment, said, “IMAX continues to be a global destination for fandom of all sorts, and Indochine is a wonderful example of how we’re delivering unique and immersive entertainment events on the international stage.” “We’re happy for the opportunity to work with Indochine on their sold-out Central Tour, and to be able to provide an unforgettable experience to their legions of adoring fans.”
“Pathé Live is ecstatic and honored to provide this fantastic event by France’s most popular and respected band to our exhibitor partners and moviegoers.” “This is the first-ever Filmed for an IMAX concert, and it will provide fans with an immersive and unrivaled experience that can only be found in movie theatres,” stated Thierry Fontaine, President of Pathé Live. “We are thrilled to be collaborating on this ambitious and unique cinema event with IMAX, JYL Productions, Sony Music, and the band itself.”
Tickets for the November 23 Indochine IMAX previews go on sale July 4, and tickets for the November 24 main release go on sale July 7.
