Is Capcom making Street Fighter 6

After months of speculation, Capcom has finally announced that Street Fighter 6 will be released. While there are few details on the new flagship fighter, that hasn’t prevented long-time fans of the franchise from being cautiously optimistic about the game and speculating on what they’d like to see.

The announcement for Street Fighter 6 and the arcade compilation Capcom Fighting Collection awaited at the end of the Capcom Countdown website, which went up in early February 2022.

The game’s tone and graphic style were teased in an all-too-brief teaser trailer, which showed off some in-engine footage of Street Fighter 6, offering fans a sneak peek at the game’s tone and aesthetic design.

We don’t know when Capcom will provide further details on Street Fighter 6. However, with E3 and Gameshow taking place in June and August, we may not have to wait long before the Hadouken’s flames reveal even more information about the game.

Read on to learn everything we know about Street Fighter 6 so far, as well as some rumours and speculation.

When will Street Fighter 6 be released?

The Street Fighter 6 release date has yet to be confirmed, but the game’s publishers, Capcom, have promised that additional details would be revealed in the summer of 2022.

With our speculating hat on, this suggests that the Street Fighter 6 release date will be in the second part of 2022. Maybe we’ll find out more at E3 2022 in June.

Characters from Street Fighter 6

Street Fighter 5 began with 16 characters, but after five seasons of content, it had grown to more than 40.

It’s impossible to say whether all of those characters will make the move to Street Fighter 6, but it’s safe to believe that Ryu, Chun-Li, Dhalsim, Ken, and M. Bison will.

Luke, the final DLC character for Season 5 of Street Fighter V, will be released on November 29th. “We’ll be back with more news regarding the future of Street Fighter,” Capcom said in the Fall Update video below, referring to him as “a glimpse into the future.” We’ll hopefully hear more soon.

The logo for Street Fighter 6

The Street Fighter 6 logo has found itself in the centre of a social media maelstrom, which we weren’t expecting to become a talking topic.

On Twitter, @Aurich pointed out that the new ‘SF6’ logo looks a lot like a stock image from Adobe’s stock image library, which can be purchased for $80. Capcom has yet to reply to the flurry of online activity that ensued as of this writing.

The story of Street Fighter 6

It appears that the story of Street Fighter 6 will begin up where the previous game left off. The clip features Ryu, the franchise’s most popular character, squaring off against Luke, a mixed martial artist who was only recently introduced to Street Fighter 5’s roster.

The Street Fighter games have a richer backstory than casual fans may realise, so it’ll be fascinating to see how this one fits into the franchise’s timeline and overall story. We’ll update you as soon as we have more information.

STREET FIGHTER 6: IS YOSHINORI ONO WORKING ON IT?

No. IGN reported incorrectly shortly after the game’s announcement that Ono would be directing the next instalment. Given that Ono left Capcom in April of last year, this error was attributed to a typo. As of now, it appears that Game Designer Yusuke Hashimoto and Producer Kazuhiro Tsuchiya will be in charge of the project.

It’s possible that Street Fighter 6 will have a different feel than its predecessors under new leadership, but Ono is likely to have had a hand in the game’s early vision, even if he won’t be directly involved with the finished result.

Platforms

According to a fresh email that surfaced in the huge Capcom leak, the game will be released not just on PC and PS5, but also on Xbox Series S and Series X. PS4 and Xbox One are also mentioned, implying a cross-generational release.

Street Fighter 5 was previously unavailable on Xbox consoles, but given Microsoft’s booming user base, it’s only natural that Capcom’s next instalment in the series will be available on all platforms. Only time will tell if this is true.

IS THERE A TRAILER FOR STREET FIGHTER 6?

Yes! Viewers of the Capcom Pro Tour Finale in February were treated to a 30-second teaser video for Street Fighter 6. The clip doesn’t show much other than a wide-angle shot of Ryu prepared to fight Luke, a newbie to the series. Luke was originally suggested as a key figure in the Street Fighter franchise’s future, and we see that suggestion play out here.
