J.D. Vance On Porn: Ban It To Save Families

J.D. Vance On Porn

Republican Senate candidate J.D. Vance told a Catholic magazine last year that pornography should be outlawed because it prevents Americans from marrying and starting kids, which goes against the GOP’s own policy.

“I think the combination of porn and abortion has basically created a lonely, isolated generation that isn’t getting married, they’re not having children, and they’re not even entirely sure how to relate with one other,” Vance stated in a newly discovered August 2021 interview with Crisis Magazine.

Vance was a keynote speaker at a conference of young conservatives, and the writer spoke with him. Vance confessed that he wants to outright outlaw pornography when she asked him “his ideas on porn and birth control and their effects on the familial decline.”

Vance’s campaign did not respond to a request for comment on his more recent views on porn and how they would affect his objectives as a senator.

Pornography was designated a “public health concern” by the GOP in its official platform in 2016, although it stopped short of calling for it to be abolished entirely.

Vance has made preserving “traditional families” and preventing abortion important tenets of his conservative platform, having witnessed firsthand poverty and addiction and their impact on families in Ohio in his memoir.

Vance explained why a gunman would murder 19 students and two teachers in the Uvalde school shooting by citing the lack of solid family values, rather than the need for gun legislation, in his remarks.

“We must confront our country’s culture of fatherlessness and drug addiction, emphasizing the value of family so that our next generation is directed and empowered by strong support networks,” Vance added.

President Richard Nixon’s “War on Porn” defined the 1970s, and the author of “Hillbilly Elegystance “‘s on pornography could be a return to that era’s social conservatism.

Those in favor of limiting access to pornography point to the country’s dropping birth rate, the potential to promote sex trafficking, and the “common good” as justifications.

Senator Josh Hawley (R-Mo. ), who supports Vance, hasn’t called for a ban on pornography. Hawley, on the other hand, contended at last year’s National Conservative Conference that pornography and masturbation were causing a national catastrophe for males.

“Can we be shocked that after years of being told that they are the problem, that their manhood is the problem,” Hawley remarked, “more and more men are withdrawing into the enclave of idleness, pornography, and video games?”

Porn regulation is a contentious issue for conservatives and libertarians, who are split on whether restricting it will jeopardize individual liberty.

During the same conservative conference where Hawley lamented the fall of men, Vance seemed to get it.

“We know that at least one cause of this is that we have allowed, under the banner of libertarianism, pornography to seep even into our youngest minds through the channels of the internet,” he said, adding that “we know that at least one cause of this is that we have allowed, under the banner of libertarianism, pornography to seep even into our youngest minds.”

“Once again, we made a political decision that the freedom to consume pornography was more essential than public goods like marriage, family, and happiness,” he went on to say. “We can’t deny that we made that decision, and we shouldn’t rule out the possibility of making different decisions in the future.”

Last year, Vance mocked Vice President Kamala Harris, a stepmother, and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, who has subsequently adopted twins with his husband.
