The renowned stand-up comedian Jak Knight has passed away. He was most known for his work in Hollywood, where he voiced the role of DeVon in the Netflix animated comedy Big Mouth. He was 28.
The actor and author passed away in Los Angeles on Thursday night, according to many sources. The devastating news was confirmed by his family, who withheld the cause of death and the specifics of his passing. The family requested discretion.
The tragic death of Knight stunned Hollywood. He was a rising talent who, at such a young age, had already established himself in the stand-up scene and had even performed as Dave Chappelle‘s opening act. Knight wrote for Big Mouth for five seasons and provided the voice for DeVon’s character.
He is also acknowledged as a writer for the popular ABC programme Black-ish. Knight co-wrote and performed in Peacock’s Bust Down more recently. He shared the screen with Langston Kerman, Sam Jay, and Chris Redd. The comedy series had just begun its first season, which had its premiere in March.
According to sources, Knight had also just finished shooting the Chelsea Peretti, Amy Poehler, and Megan Mullally-starring picture First Time Female Director. The native of Seattle spends a lot of time performing stand-up comedy on the road. He appeared in The Comedian Lineup Netflix special from last year.
In a joint statement following his passing, Peacock and Universal Television, who streamed and produced Bust Down, described him as “a tremendous comedian, visionary, and artist.” The message further stated, “We were all fortunate to witness his excellence. Our thoughts and prayers are with Jak’s family, friends, and neighborhood during this tragic time.”
