Jesse Palmer played for coach Steve Spurrier’s Florida Gators football team from 1997 to 2000 after accepting an athletic scholarship to attend the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida. Palmer frequently traded off playing time with quarterbacks Doug Johnson and, subsequently, Rex Grossman. He got the Fergie Ferguson Award from the Gators, given to the senior football player “who demonstrates excellent leadership, character, and courage,” as a senior and was chosen as one of the team captains. With 3,755 passing yards, he completed his four years of college.

The New York Giants of the National Football League (NFL) selected Jesse Palmer in the fourth round (with the 125th overall choice) of the 2001 NFL Draft. He played with the Giants from 2001 to 2005.
