According to a new analysis by the theatre journal The Stage, the price of a ticket to see a play or musical in London’s West End will increase by 21%.
According to the report, the average ticket price has increased since 2019 from £116 ($142) to £140 ($172), with the average top price for a play ticket rising by 38% to £114 ($140).
With top-tier prices set at more than £300 ($368), Cabaret, the award-winning revival of Bob Fosse’s extravaganza starring Eddie Redmayne and Jessie Buckley, is currently the most expensive musical. However, its venue, the Playhouse Theatre, also makes a few £25 tickets available for each performance.
With prices hovering around $27, cheaper tickets have only increased by 3.3 percent throughout that time.

Aside from the Playhouse needing to remove seats to comply with pandemic regulations, inflation, which in the UK is roughly 12 percent, is a factor in the price increases.
Top ticket prices fluctuate from year to year and are frequently affected “by a very small number of high-profile plays,” a spokesman for the Society of London Theatre told the BBC.
