Lorde Responds To ‘Painful’ First Reaction To ‘Solar Power’ Album, Drops New Music Video

Lorde isn’t hesitant to show her emotions through her music. The 25-year-old singer opened up to fans in a newsletter on the anniversary of the announcement of her eagerly anticipated third studio album, Solar Power, which was set to be released in August 2021.

Lorde wrote, “It’s been a year since I announced the release of Solar Power. Along with a new music video for “The Path,” I’ve been feeling.

I can genuinely say that this year has had the highest highs and lowest lows I believe I have ever encountered.

“I still get emails every day from people who are just now getting the album,” Lorde continued, “and that response was extremely puzzling and at times terrible to sit with at first. Making and releasing this album taught me a lot about who I am and how I come across, and I feel more alive and connected to both my art practice and my life than I have pretty much ever before. It may sound dull, but it’s true!

Lorde continued by saying that, despite the album’s unfavorable reviews, she is grateful for her fans and that, in her opinion, the record was essential to her development as an artist.

“Recently, I was drinking chai with a friend in a country house in England; she is also an artist, and somehow the subject of the album came up. It’s obviously one of those works that are produced in between peaks, the kind that is occasionally necessary for creators, no less valuable, and without which peaks are not possible. This, in my opinion, is accurate, said Lorde. It’s also a great sensation to perform songs from SP live every night in what is unquestionably my best live performance ever; everything makes sense there to you and me in a fresh and vivid way. And because of SP, I was able to deal with some significant personal issues that were making it challenging for me to do things like travel or do gigs without being totally overwhelmed.

Lorde has already spoken candidly about the business and everything that goes along with being a well-known performer. She admitted to Vogue in September 2021 that she isn’t suited for everything that comes with being in the spotlight.

She said at the time, “I’m amazing at my profession, but I’m not convinced I’m the guy for the job. “I’m a really sensitive individual. I’m not built for pop star life. To have a public-facing existence is something I find incredibly intense and is something I’m not good at. That natural charisma is not what I have. The brain is in the jar I hold.

Solar Power is more eagerly anticipated than other albums because Lorde is known for her spectacular musical breaks.

After releasing Pure Heroine, her debut album, in 2013, it took her another four years to produce Melodrama. The Washington Post praised the album’s commitment to peel away everything familiar, even if it doesn’t always work, in its review of Solar Power, which she didn’t release for another four years.

Lorde admitted in an interview with Vogue that she has a lot of cynicism, but not about the alchemical process that she believes occurs in her work. The piece has a profound impact on viewers. Young people are my admirers, and I can only assume that they rely heavily on me both emotionally and spiritually. But it’s a connection like any other. You want it to be in good health. There must be an understanding that mummy does go to the other room and that she will return for the benefit of the two of us.
