Los Angeles Mayor’s Race, Rep. Karen Bass (D-CA) and Councilman Kevin de Leon will take part in a Los Angeles mayoral candidates’ discussion board on Tuesday at ICM Partners, which will focus on the race’s most pressing issue: homelessness.
Alfre Woodard will deliver the opening remarks at the Fixing Homelessness event, which is sponsored by Politico and ICM Partners. It will happen barely two months before the most significant mayoral election, with polls showing a tight battle between Bass and developer Rick Caruso. Caruso, who has saturated Los Angeles airways with advertisements focused on the homelessness epidemic, was invited but declined due to a scheduling conflict, according to an ICM Companions representative.
Bass said in a March debate that she would appoint someone to be in charge of addressing the homelessness situation, and that person would report to her. She also mentioned a goal of housing 15,000 people in her first year. De Leon stressed the importance of his letter in tackling the issue in his district, noting the country’s largest “small home” hamlet.
In recent months, Councilman Joe Buscaino has dropped out in favour of Caruso, and Los Angeles Town Attorney Mike Feuer has resigned out in favour of Bass.
