In its first-ever agreement, French distributor Newen Connect sold the exclusive North American rights to four European shows to American streamer Topic.
In an effort to diversify its selection of thrillers, First Look Entertainment-owned Topic has acquired the international series Christian from Sky Italia, Dough from SVT Sweden, The Spectacular from the Netherlands, and White Sands from Denmark TV2.
Early this year, Deadline reported that the streaming service had honed in on “elevated crime and thriller” drama and documentaries.
The deal covers a wide range, with Christian focusing on a man who makes his living performing nefarious deeds for a criminal boss, Dough highlighting a divorced, financially strapped mother in a suburb of Stockholm who begins living a double life, and The Spectacular tracing an academic recruited for an investigation into IRA attacks on British soldiers in the Dutch region of Limburg, and the “beach noir” White Sands examining an undercover expert and homicide

The four, according to Newen EVP of Distribution Leone Connell, “represents some of the best thrillers from our portfolio.”
She continued, “Newen Connect achieves this so effectively, distributing outstanding shows from all around Europe, each delivering creative and compelling storytelling.
