Obama Slams GOP Sen. Ron Johnson On Social Security In Explosive Rally Speech

During a rally for his Democratic opponent, Wisconsin Lt. Gov. Mandela Barnes, Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) came under intense questioning from former president Barack Obama.

Obama, who addressed a gathering in Milwaukee on Saturday, criticized Tim Michels, a Republican running for governor who has said he will not participate in the 2020 election, and urged the crowd to refrain from jeering and instead cast their ballots, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Johnson received a barrage of criticism from the former president as well, who questioned the senator’s electability in light of his support for a tax measure allowing taxpayers to deduct the cost of private aircraft from their taxes.

“His adult children purchased three private jets, not one, not two. Obama referred to the children of Johnson as “obviously not an option” because of carpooling.

Later, Obama attacked Johnson for his backing of a plan that would put Medicare and Social Security “on the chopping block” and for wanting to raise the retirement age to 70.

“The point is that some of you here are receiving Social Security, as are some of your parents and some of your grandparents. Do you know why they receive Social Security? Considering that they toiled for it,” Obama stated.
