• Ordinance against loud music

I have written on this subject before and even addressed the former Posey County Commissioners on this matter only to get the silence I wish the owner/operators of vehicles with loud subwoofers would give the citizens of the county at large. However no ordinance has been directed at the drivers who use this sound equipment for no other reason other than to disturb the homeowners in Posey County who enjoy the peace the county offers.

  • More questions should be asked about bridge

That was an interesting article in last weeks paper [March 28 issue of the Mount Vernon Democrat] concerning the bridge revenue at the Wabash bridge. The only thing missing was the true facts of how the bridge is really doing in terms of tolls collected.

  • 'Creation' column strained

Ann Rains’ column in the Mount Vernon Democrat on Feb. 1, 2012, was titled “Creation in Progress.”
Ann then proceeded to describe “Evolution in Progress.” Ann’s effort to characterize evolution of the Earth’s inhabitants as changes in creation was so strained that it made me uncomfortable.
Ann began her column with a reference to the Biblical story of the sixday creation of the Earth. Ann said that creation is continuing; she supported her view of continuing

  • Softball sends thanks

The Mount Vernon Girls’ Softball Association would like to thank Sheriff Greg Oeth and the trustees at the Posey County Jail for their help with improvements at the girls’ softball diamond located at Brittlebank Park.
Last fall, the trustees worked several days painting the bleachers, fence, and dugouts. The players, coaches, and board members appreciate their efforts to help improve the appearance of our softball field.
