Pachinko is a new series that will be available exclusively on Apple TV and will be told in Korean, Japanese, and English. The film is based on Min Jin Lee’s novel of the same name.
“They say there are those projects that come along and transform the very core of who you are as a filmmaker and a person,” series creator Soo Hugh remarked. Pachinko is, without a doubt, that project for me.
“This is not only a story about my forefathers and mothers, but it is also a tribute to them — to all of the ‘Sunjas’ buried deep in our family’s past.” It’s been a great honour to work with with a talented and dedicated cast and crew to bring this series to life.”
Release Date for Pachinko
Pachinko will be released worldwide on Friday, March 25th, and will be available only on Apple TV.
The first three episodes will be released on March 25th, with additional instalments released every Friday after that. There will be a total of eight episodes.
What’s the story behind ‘Pachinko’?
Pachinko, according to Apple TV, is both grand and personal in scope. “The novel begins with a forbidden love and builds to a vast saga that spans Korea, Japan, and America, telling an amazing story of war and peace, love and tragedy, triumph and reckoning.”
Further storyline details for the series have been kept under wraps, but it is intended to closely mirror the events of the book.
Who’s in the Cast of ‘Pachinko’?
Pachinko has enlisted the help of several great names in Korean film, including Oscar winner Youn Yuh-jung as Sunja and K-Drama legend Lee Min-ho as Sunja’s lover Koh Hansu.
Because the series spans decades, several actors will portray heroine Sunja, with Jeon Yu-na portraying her during her childhood, Kim Min-ha portraying her as a teenager, and Youn portraying her later in life.
Soji Arai, Jimmi Simpson, Jin Ha, and Kaho Minami are among the other cast members.
First Look at ‘Pachinko’
On Wednesday, January 26, Apple TV+ released the first photos from Pachinko, which featured Sunja and Koh Hansu among the main characters.
One image depicts Lee Min-ho as Hansu beside Kim Min-ha, and suggests the characters’ romantic bond.
Another shows Youn Yuh-jung in a different time in Sunja’s life, as well as Jeon Yu-na as the character when she was younger, and there was also a still of Jin Ha in the role of Solomon, which showed his life in America.
Apple TV+ released a teaser trailer for the show on Wednesday, February 23, giving viewers a taste of the epic family drama.
