The opportunity to combine Skydance’s own style of high-end, elevated action-adventure entertainment with the illustrious history of the Matchbox name is exciting. Everyone who has played with a Matchbox vehicle or playset has had the experience of coming up with their own creative action sequence, and we’re thrilled to make an international adventure movie that is worthy of such creativity.
To help his daughter, who was only permitted to bring a toy to school if it could fit in a matchbox, Jack Odell, an automotive specialist, and enthusiast designed the matchbox in 1953. An iconic business was created after his daughter’s schoolmates started screaming for matchbox cars. For nearly seven decades, the toy has been renowned for its high standards of authenticity. According to the business, a Matchbox car is sold every second.
