Sonya Eddy, best known for playing nurse Epiphany Johnson on “General Hospital,” has passed away. She was 55.
Tyler Ford, who co-owned Eddy Ford Entertainment with the actor, released a statement to HuffPost on Tuesday. “It is with the heaviest heart that I have to report the tragic demise of my business partner, creative soulmate, and best friend Sonya Eddy,” the statement said. She left a permanent mark on everyone she came into contact with, both in person and through a screen.
There was no mention of the reason of death.
The executive producer of “General Hospital,” Frank Valentini, expressed his heartbreak over the tragedy.
I genuinely adored her as a friend in addition to an actress. The heart of the nurse’s station will now have slightly weaker lighting, but the show and our set will continue to be inspired by her, the actor tweeted. “We extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and fans on behalf of the entire #GH cast and crew. She is greatly missed.
Additionally, Valentini’s comment was shared on the long-running soap’s official Instagram page, which Eddy joined for the first time in 2006.
Since the 1990s, Eddy has made appearances in a number of TV shows, including “Seinfeld,” “ER,” “Fresh Off the Boat,” and “Murphy Brown.”
On Tuesday, additional tributes poured in via social media.
Using Eddy’s Instagram name, star Octavia Spencer said on the social media site, “My friend @sonyaeddy passed away last night.” Another creative angel has left the world. She will be missed by her hordes of ‘General Hospital’ admirers.
Star of “Community” Yvette Nicole Brown expressed her sorrow over the loss of her friend, and Kathleen Gati, Eddy’s “General Hospital” co-star, expressed her shock and bewilderment.
“I always enjoyed working with her, and we had many good laughs together. My sympathies go out to her family, friends, coworkers, and admirers. Her absence will be felt, Gati penned.
Jackie Zeman, a different co-star, called Eddy “an inspiration.”
“So gifted and so incredibly unique. She tweeted, “I will miss your lovely sparkling presence.
Ford requested that memorial donations be made in Eddy’s honour to the National Student Nurses’ Association Foundation.
