  • Wildcats drop two more to stay winless

    The Mount Vernon Wildcats continued their run of bad luck this week, falling at home to North Posey on Friday and on the road at Jasper Saturday to move to 0-11.

    Mount Vernon was defeated by North Posey, 69-55.

    Nathan Fischer and Sam Thomas each scored 12 points in defeat, and Ben Varner added 11.

    Jasper defeated the Wildcats on the road Saturday, 74-33.

  • Dance Cats succeed in competition

    The Mount Vernon Dance Cats have been working on new routines along with their winter material since October, with the hard work paying off.

    The girls recently placed first in Division A Hip Hop and Division A Jazz at Crawfordsville.

    The girls also received the Outstanding Sportsmanship Award, voted on by all teams.

  • Muensterman signs with University of Evansville

    Pearl Muensterman, with a quick signature made it official last week, she will be swimming for the University of Evansville.

    Pearl began swimming at the YMCA in Evansville in the summer of 2009 when she was nine years old and advanced to the regional meet that summer. After the regional meet, Pearl joined MTV swim. As a MTV swimmer, she continued to improve and excel placing in the top eight at the state meet seven times.

  • Wildcats season ends in Vincennes

    The final curtain fell on Mount Vernon’s football season last Friday at Vincennes, with the Wildcats falling to the Alices, 60-28.

    The Wildcats founf themseves down 46-7 at the half, a hill that was too hard to climb.

    Rhett Snodgrass was 10 of 20 with 77 yards passing, and a touchdownn and two interceptions.

    Sam Thomas carried the ball 11 times for 160 yards and two touchdowns.

    Thomas also led the team in receiving, with six receptions for 56 yards and a touchdown.

    Snodgrass rushed for the teams fourth touchdown.

  • Wildcats lose regular season finale at Jasper

    The Mount Vernon Football team traveled to Jasper on Friday to wrap up the regular season.

    The team was defeated, 54-21.

    Leaders for Mount Vernon were Rhett Snodgrass going 16 of 24 for 155 yards, with three touchdowns and an interception.

    Preston Tolbert led the team in rushing with 12 carries for 48 yards.

    Sam Thomas led the receivers with six catches for 68 yards and a touchdown.

    Breckan Austin had six receptions for 63 yards and two touchdowns.

    Thomas led the defense with five tackles as well.

  • XC runners qualify for Regional

    Seeded 7th/8th heading into last Saturday’s Cross Country Sectional at Angel Mounds, the Mt. Vernon boys cross country team finally closed the first to fifth gap to 62 seconds to finish 6th. They were edged by Evansville Central by 12 points just missing out of the top 5 team finish which advances an entire team to the Regional tournament. Overall, due to the windy conditions, times were slow, but the “pack mentality” was nearly enough to qualify as a team.

  • Wildcats get huge road win after long drive to Scottsburg

    The Mount Vernon Football team, after what seemed like a long stretch of uninspiring play, finally put the gameplan together with a win, Friday at Scottsburg, 27-24.

    The Wildcats were nearly even in total yards with Scottsburg, leading 319-318.

    Rhett Snodgrass was 11 of 19 for 249 yards and four touchdowns.

    Tolbert led the rushing game with 11 carries and 33 yards.

    Breckan Austin led the receivers with four catches and 121 yards.

    Sam Thoms had six catches for 116 yards and three touchdowns.

  • Girls’ swim team takes second in MV Invite

    In an event that features competition only seen at the State Swim meet, the Lady Wet Cats proved they are a force not to be taken lightly. The Mount Vernon Girls’ Swim Team captured second place last weekend in the annual Mount Vernon Invite that entertained competitors from swim powerhouses like Jeffersonville, Memorial, Reitz, North, Heritage Hills, Mater Dei and Central.

  • Mount Vernon falls in Sectional to Memorial

    The Mount Vernon Baseball team wound up on the wrong side of an 8-0 score last Monday at Braun Stadium, tasting defeat at the hands of Evansville Memorial.

    Evansville Memorial was sparked by Ashley and Niehaus, who teamed up for four hits and four RBIs.

    Bryan Hensley was the game’s losing pitcher. He lasted just four and 2/3 innings, walked three, struck out six, and allowed five runs.

    Evansville Memorial never trailed after scoring two runs in the third on a two-run double by Niehaus.

  • Wildcat runners compete at State

    A handful of Wildcat runners competed at Indiana University over the weekend at the IHSAA State Track Meet.

    On Friday, the girls meet was held and the Mount Vernon 400-meter relay team competed.

    The team comprised of Courtney Bourne, Savannah Bush, Cydney Cole and Brooke Green finished in 25th place with a time of 50.73.

    Austin Peerman competed in two events in the boys meet on Saturday. Peerman finished 19th in the preliminaries of the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.21, missing the finals.
