“The Bad Guys” is now available. The new DreamWorks Animation picture, based on the Aaron Blabey book series of the same name, brings to life a motley group of, well, bad people. Over the course of one large theft, a group of bad guys may find themselves turning good. The film has a distinctive animation style and an amazing ensemble voice cast, but how do you watch “The Bad Guys?”? Is this family film readily available at home, or are you planning a trip to the theatre?
We’ve got answers to all of those questions and more down below.
The Bad Guys Release Date
Several studios expressed interest in converting the series into a film in July 2017. DreamWorks Animation will make a film based on the book series, with Etan Cohen as the writer, according to Variety on March 9, 2018.
The film will be directed by Pierre Perifel in his feature directorial debut, with Cohen and Hilary Winston penning the screenplay. The film was described as having “a similar twist on the heist genre that Shrek did on fairy tales, and what Kung Fu Panda did for the kung fu genre” on October 7, 2019.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the team operated from afar.
The film will be released in theatres on September 17, 2021, according to reports from October 7, 2019.
The film was rescheduled for 2022 on December 28, 2020, though it was stated that it would be rescheduled “over the following weeks.”
Plot of The Bad Guys
The Bad Guys—dashing pickpocket Mr. Wolf, experienced safecracker Mr. Snake, calm master-of-disguise Mr. Shark, short-fused “muscle” Mr. Piranha, and sharp-tongued skilled hacker Ms. Tarantula, aka “Webs”—have never been more infamous.
When the gang is finally apprehended after years of innumerable heists and being the world’s most wanted criminals, Mr. Wolf strikes a deal (that he has no intention of honouring) to keep them all out of prison: The Bad Guys will go good.
The Bad Guys set out to convince the world that they’ve been converted, with the help of their instructor Professor Marmalade, an arrogant (but charming!) guinea pig. Along the way, though, Mr. Wolf begins to believe that doing good for the sake of doing good might provide him with something he’s always secretly desired: acceptance. Can Mr. Wolf persuade the rest of the group to join him when a new evil threatens the city?
Who Is in the Cast of “The Bad Guys”?

Where to Watch The Bad Guys?
For the time being, the only way to see The Bad Guys is to attend to a theatre.
On April 22, 2022, The Bad Guys will be released in theatres across the United States. Tickets for a theatre near you can be found here.
Following the theatrical release, The Bad Guys will be available to stream on Peacock, the NBC Universal streaming service, and then, ultimately, on Netflix. The Bad Guys will also be available to rent on digital platforms such as Amazon Prime, iTunes, YouTube, Google Play, and others.
Is The Bad Guys Going To Be On HBO Max?
Because The Bad Guys is a Universal Pictures film rather than a Warner Bros. film, it will not be available to stream on HBO Max when it releases in theatres. In addition, HBO Max will stop streaming theatrical films in 2022. Last year, Warner Media chose to release its theatrical slate on streaming at the same time, allowing HBO Max users to watch Matrix Resurrections at home. However, Warner Bros. theatrical films will have a 45-day run in theatres before coming to HBO Max this year.
