The Society is an American mystery teen drama television series produced by Christopher Keyser that launched on Netflix on May 10, 2019. Kathryn Newton, Gideon Adlon, Sean Berdy, Natasha Liu Bordizzo, Jacques Colimon, Olivia DeJonge, Alex Fitzalan, Kristine Froseth, Jose Julian, Alexander MacNicoll, Toby Wallace, Rachel Keller, and Gideon Adlon star in the series. Despite being extended for a second season, the show was cancelled after only one season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Is there a second season of The Society in the works?
When it premiered in 2019, the Netflix original series The Society, which has been compared to Lord of the Flies, was a tremendous hit with viewers. Everyone who enjoyed the first season of the sci-fi mystery thriller The Society wondered when season 2 will be available on the streaming service in this reality.
Netflix had renewed the series for a second season in April 2020, according to Deadline, and the much-anticipated following chapter would be released in late 2020.
Netflix informed The Hollywood Reporter that The Society season 2 would not be created owing to complications posed by the Coronavirus Pandemic.
According to THR, Netflix was satisfied with how The Society performed, but scheduling unknowns and cost increases to fulfill the standards for COVID-19 safety regulations, among other considerations, prompted the series’ cancellation.
Season 2 of ‘The Society’ has been canceled.
Netflix announced on July 9, 2019, that ‘The Society’ has been renewed. Netflix has yet to confirm an official release date, although Deadline reported on April 2 that the show will return in late 2020. The fanbase was ecstatic, and the new season was eagerly anticipated.
However, on August 21st, 2020, Netflix announced via Deadline that the decision had been reversed and the show had been canceled.
What Was the Reason for the Cancellation of ‘The Society’?
Due to the COVID-19 crisis, the show’s production was originally halted, although it was expected to resume soon. The cast even stated that they were getting ready to return to work. However, the COVID scenario may have inflated production costs, causing Netflix to alter its decision.
Netflix informed Deadline, “We’ve made the difficult choice not to move forward with second seasons of The Society, and I Am Not Okay With This.”
“We’re disappointed to have to make these decisions as a result of COVID’s circumstances, and we’re grateful to these creators, including Jonathan Entwistle, Christy Hall, Shawn Levy, Dan Levine, Dan Cohen, and Josh Barry at 21 Laps Entertainment for I Am Not Okay With This; Chris Keyser, Marc Webb, and Pavlina Hatoupis for The Society; and all the writers, casts, and crews who worked tirelessly to make these shows
“Uncertainty around production schedules and managing the availabilities of a large cast like The Society, combined with unforeseen budget hikes owing to COVID, led to the decisions on The Society,” according to Deadline.
Season 2 of The Society has a release date.
The Society, which was planned to premiere in late 2020, has been officially cancelled by Netflix. Hopefully, this isn’t a permanent decision, and Netflix will reconsider bringing back some of the shows that were forced to be cancelled during the crisis once things have stabilised.
Stranger things have happened in the past, so the chances aren’t in your favour. Many people would have laughed at the prospect of a ninth season of Dexter only a few weeks ago, but now that one is on the way, everything is possible.
The Second Season Cast of The Society
The Society’s Season 2 cast was slated to return, including Kathryn Newton in the character of Allie. Jacques Colimon, Toby Wallace, Gideon Adlon, Sean Berdy, Alex Fitzalan, Kristine Froseth, and Natasha Liu Bordizzo are among the cast members who are expected to return for the second season of the Netflix original series. Olivia Nikkanen, who plays Gwen, has been promoted to series regular, with the following description of her role:
Cassandra was assassinated by Seth Meriwether’s character Dewey, who was later hanged for the same crime, hence their chances of appearing in season 2 of The Society were limited. Because this show is based on alternate worlds, anything is conceivable in the Netflix original universe.
The fates of everyone’s favourite characters are unknown now that the show has been cancelled, and viewers will have to make educated guesses about what may have happened if The Society season 2 had been a reality on Netflix.
