Elon Musk, hide your eyes: Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey is ready to unveil a beta version of a new social networking app to the general public.
Bluesky, Musk’s new app, is getting ready to launch right after he dropped $44 billion to acquire Twitter. There is a queue of people eager to test the beta version of the software.
Blueksky has been called out as a competitor to Twitter, albeit its final form and functionality are yet unclear.
Bluesky’s “AT Protocol” is being promoted as the backbone of a new “federated social network” that incorporates “decentralised technology into a simple, fast, and open network,” as stated on the company’s blog. Bluesky, the user’s browser of choice, will supposedly allow them to switch between various social media sites with ease.
Dorsey said earlier this month that it competes with Twitter because “any firm aiming to own the underlying fundamentals for social media or the data of the people using it.”
(But sceptics think Dorsey and Musk might be working together covertly on Bluesky.)
Despite Musk’s efforts to allay user fears about what Twitter might become under his leadership, Twitter users may be looking for a new home. Earlier this week, he reassured potential advertisers that, contrary to previous statements, Twitter will not become a wholly unfiltered “free-for-all hellscape.” Recent events, however, suggest he may be intentionally fostering such an environment.
Musk promptly restated his stance that he does not favour permanent bans from Twitter, no matter how offensive a user’s words or attacks may be.
After being banned from the social media platform for his horrific antisemitic screeds, Kanye West, who is now legally known as Ye, is already back on the platform. But Musk says he had nothing to do with the rapper’s account being restored and that it had been back up before he closed the deal to buy Twitter.
