A 16-year-old British youngster claimed that after telling his parents and older brother that he was gay, they started beating him, he was in imminent danger.
This week, the case was heard in the Blackburn Magistrates Court in Blackburn, North West England. The unnamed boy claimed to have been beaten because his parents had suggested it because they thought he “may be altered.” According to the newspaper, the sibling was also involved in the assault.
Saleema Chaudhry, an assistant district attorney, stated, “At the time, he told his mother he was afraid, but she disregarded him.” He claims to be unsure as to whether his parents understood the seriousness of their conduct.

The victim, who is of South Asian descent, allegedly expressed optimism that, after coming out, he may have a positive relationship with his parents. He admitted in his victim impact statement that he was terrified to stay in the area for fear that his family would use violence against him in the future. He has been temporarily placed in foster care.
Despite his initial anguish, Chaudhry said he is now relieved to have his genuine identity known. The prosecution contended that the youngster committed honour crimes and homophobic assaults. The victim’s family has all claimed responsibility for the alleged assault.
The boy’s injuries, according to the family’s attorney Aftab Bakhat, were not severe.
He stated that it was clear from the pre-sentence assessments that the offenders had “entrenched ideas” that required addressing. “Their kid has come out as gay, and they have behaved in a terrible, harsh, and aggressive way, which is going to psychologically injure his own son,” I respond.
The brother’s counsel, Peter King, said that his client was coerced into the attack out of loyalty to his parents and felt compelled to defend his younger sibling.
On that particular day, King continued, “he opted to support his parents, not because he thought his brother was going in the wrong direction, but out of devotion.”

Judge Alex Boyd sentenced all three criminals to community service, noting that the victim’s sexual orientation had fueled the defendants’ animosity. Each defendant was charged a victim surcharge of £114 ($137) and court costs of £100 ($121). They also received a restraining order prohibiting them from communicating with the victim for the next 18 months.
The father was required to do 30 days of rehabilitation activities, whilst the mother was only had to complete 20 days. They each received a 200-hour community service term. The brother was given a sentence of 20 days of therapeutic activity and 80 hours of community service.
