It is based on the original ABC romantic comedy/drama The Love Boat, which aired from 1977 to 1986. From 1998 to 1999, it was rerun as Love Boat: The Next Wave on UPN (now The CW). The performance takes place in the Mediterranean aboard the opulent Princess Cruises vessel Regal Princess.
The show is produced in collaboration between Eureka Productions and Buster Productions.
