Ukraine’s first lady, a scriptwriter and Zelenskyy’s old classmate, is regarded as one of the country’s most powerful women.
Kiyashko, the 44-year-maiden old’s name, was born in Kryvyi Rih on February 5, 1978. She went to Kryvyi Rih National University to study architecture before deciding to pursue a career in literature. Zelenskyy, an aspiring comedian and law student, was there when she met him. According to reports, the two were once classmates and shared mutual friends, but they didn’t meet until their university years.
Before becoming Ukraine’s first lady, Olena Zelenska worked as a writer.
Zelenska then went on to work as a writer for a comedy company, which led to Zelenskyy’s success in “Servant of the People.” Zelenskyy played as a loving high school teacher who becomes president after becoming fed up with corrupt politicians in the Ukrainian comedy series that exploded in popularity in the 2010s. He was considered as one of the best entertainers in Ukraine.
Before marrying on Sept. 6, 2003, Zelenska and Zelenskyy apparently dated for eight years. A year later, they had Aleksandra, their now-17-year-old daughter. Kiril, the couple’s 9-year-old son, is the couple’s other child.
In 2019, Zelenska told Vogue Ukraine, “I like being backstage.” “My husband prefers to be in the spotlight, whereas I prefer to be in the shade. I’m not the life of the party, and I’m not fond of cracking jokes. It’s not in my nature to do so. But I found reasons to support exposure for myself. One of them is the chance to bring critical social concerns to people’s attention. At the same time, this has nothing to do with my children’s publicity: I’ve never placed their images on social media before, and I’m not going to start now.”

According to the site, Zelenska found out about her husband’s presidential campaign on January 1, 2019, through “social networks.” “I forgot,” Zelenskyy said when she inquired why he didn’t mention anything to her before going public.
“When I realised those were the plans, I was not pleased. I realised how things would change, as well as the challenges we would confront “Zelenska confessed. “… My husband has a knack for surprising me. But, if we’re being serious, we’ve been talking about this for a long time, and I’ve told him that I’ll always back him.”
Knowing that she and her family would be in the spotlight, Zelenska allegedly “aggressively fought” her husband’s first aspirations to seek politics. Despite her initial reservations, her purpose was to stand behind her husband regardless of his decision. During photo ops and speeches, she was frequently on Zelenskyy’s side.

Zelenskyy won a landslide democratic election in 2019, defeating a rich businessman. He promised to depose the corrupt oligarchs that have ruled Ukraine haphazardly since the fall of the Soviet Union. She was on the cover of Vogue Ukraine that year.
Despite their celebrity, Zelenska told Vogue that the pair has always been committed to protecting their children’s privacy. As a first lady, Zelenska also stated that she was determined to help her husband.
“I grew up in Kryvyi Rih, I’ve lived in this nation my whole life, and I know how many challenges we have,” she explained. “However, if I try to grasp everything, it won’t work,” she says. “So our team chose to focus on specific issues, such as children’s health, equal opportunity for all Ukrainians, and cultural diplomacy.”

Women’s rights is one of Zelenska’s main causes. She spearheaded Ukraine’s membership in the Biarritz Partnership, a G7 worldwide initiative on gender equality. She also advocated the Ukrainian Women’s Congress. Reforming the school nutrition system and boosting awareness of the Ukrainian language have also been part of her work. Zelenska has decided to promote Ukrainian designers through her personal style, particularly during her travels.
She told Vogue, “The president’s spouse has the ability to engage with individuals close to power.” “Official doors do not close until the first lady arrives. I’m not a politician, and I have no authority to interfere with the president’s work, but I can and am prepared to act as a conduit between people and officials so that the latter hears the first.”
In addition to her responsibilities as Ukraine’s first lady, Zelenska works as a scriptwriter at Kvartal 95 Studio, a production business founded by her husband, according to People magazine.
Zelenska tested positive for coronavirus in 2020. Her husband and children were all found to be negative. She used social media to keep in touch with the public, saying she “felt fine” while undergoing treatment and separating herself from her family “to avoid putting them in risk.”
Zelenska and her children are said to have remained in Ukraine at an unidentified location during this year’s Russian incursion. Before declining an offer to be evacuated from Kyiv, Ukraine’s capital, Zelenskyy remarked that “the enemy marked me as target no.1, my family as target no.2.”

She posted on Instagram, “I will not have terror and tears.” “I’ll be composed and assured. My kids are staring at me. I’ll be right next to them. And then there’s my hubby. And you, as well.”
