Have you ever wondered what would happen if you combined Élite and The Crown with a healthy dose of Skam, the Nordic version of Skins? That didn’t stop Lisa Ambjörn, Lars Beckung, and Camilla Holter from accomplishing just that with Netflix’s latest teen craze, Young Royals. Fortunately, it works, and the show is even more addicting than you might expect.
Season one followed Prince Wilhelm at Hillerska Boarding School as he balanced royal obligations and adolescent love. By the end of the first season, Sweden’s next king had to choose between the throne and his feelings for Simon, a fellow student from a less than regal upbringing.
With such a cliffhanger, Netflix had no choice but to renew the show, and they have officially confirmed that Young Royals will return for a second season. Now that we know about the formal renewal, here’s all you need to know about season two of Young Royals.
When is the second season of Young Royals expected to be released?
Netflix programmes typically take a year or more to return for a second season, but Young Royals’ first season was only six episodes long, and with no special effects to consider, we wouldn’t be surprised if new episodes appear before the end of the summer. The only thing we know for sure is that season two will premiere in 2022.
What evidence do we have for this? Netflix has produced a cute video of the cast celebrating the good news, which you can see below!
This is Twitter content that has been imported. You might be able to find the same information in a different format, or more information, on their website.
That’s fine and all, but we insist that the story be continued as soon as possible, because the teen cast isn’t getting any younger, and it would be strange if they all seemed to age drastically between seasons one and two.
Edvin Ryding confirmed the production plan to Numero in November, and the show has now begun shooting.
“Season two of Young Royals will begin filming in February, and the cast and crew are working around the clock to prepare and make it all happen. I believe that great times lie ahead for both of us.”
Will there be a second season of Young Royals?
Yes. “YOUNG ROYALS SEASON 2 LETS GOOOOO,” Netflix’s LGBTQ+ account @Most tweeted on September 22, accompanying a video of the cast confirming that Young Royals will return for a second season.
They claim: “Thank you for taking the time to watch Young Royals. Thank you for taking the time to read our story. Thank you so much for all of your wonderful messages. We are devoted to you. We’ve got some great news to share with you. Young Royals will return for a second season “..
Who will be a part of the second season’s cast?
If it is extended for a second season, all of the cast members are expected to return, with the exception of Ivar Forsling, who played Crown Prince Erik, Prince Wilhelm’s older brother. In the third episode, Forsling’s character died in a vehicle accident.
Prince Wilhelm is played by Edvin Ryding, Simon is played by Omar Rudberg, August is played by Malte Grdinger, Sara is played by Frida Argento, Felice is played by Nikita Uggla, Queen Kristina of Sweden is played by Pernilla August, Madison is played by Nathalie Varli, and Linda is played by Carmen Gloria Pérez.
After receiving requests from fans, Netflix Nordics recently uploaded stills from the photo shoot with the season 2 cast to Instagram. The photographs feature Ryding, Rudberg, Grdinger, Argento, and Uggla.
On Young Royals, who designed the school uniforms?
Netflix programme stylists reportedly collaborated with apparel firm Tiger of Sweden to create the Hillerska School uniform.
